5th Class Suggested Work to Complete at Home (5th May - 8th May)

Hi 5th Class!

I hope you had a relaxing bank holiday weekend, and enjoyed the little bit of sun outside! Here is a list of suggested work to complete this week. As always, there is no pressure to finish all of this work. We all work and learn differently. If you find that you are not able to finish all of this work, that is okay. If you find that you need more to keep you busy – just email!

Also do not forget that you can email me to help you with any part of the work that might confuse you, or if you simply want to say hello.

Every week, I attach a Suggested Schedule of Work that suits the work for the week in question. (Attached below)
There is no pressure to follow this, although it might help those who like to follow a timetable, or add some structure to the day. A good idea is to print the Schedule and tick off the work as you complete it – this way you can keep track of the work you finish.

Maths
  • Master Your Maths - To be completed everyday as normal (Week 30)
  • New work on Mangahigh (online – www.mangahigh.com) to complete – 1 task based on Directed Numbers (Using Negative Numbers). Please email me if you need your username and password (missmulholland2020@gmail.com)
  • Learning Tables x 10 (Oral practise or Timetables.com)
  • Lesson on this week’s topic: Directed Numbers (Attached below)

English
  • Spellings: Next spelling list (Attached below). Pick 10 challenging spellings and complete: 5 sentences and 5 definitions in your homework copy.
  • Handwriting: Complete one page of handwriting per week – don’t worry too much about filling the book. Remember, we only complete half of the book in 5th class and keep the other half for 6th class.
  • Lesson on this week’s topic: Report Writing/Famous Shipwrecks (Attached below)

Gaeilge
  • Litriú – Fill in and learn spellings – To be completed everyday as normal (Attached below)
  • Lesson on this week’s topic: An Aimsir (Attached below)
  • I have attached the Foclóir agus Frasaí document and voice recording below to help you with pronounciation. (Both attached below)

Geography/Art:
Weekly Topic: Irish Mountains, Lakes and Rivers

  • Complete the Kahoot Quiz below to test your knowledge of last week’s topic: Ireland in the 16th and 17th Century (Some questions/information in this Kahoot might be new and challenging – try to solve the tricky questions using internet research – there is no time limit on this Kahoot, so you can take your time)

  • Read Small World Geography/Science Pg. 18 – 22

  • Have a look at the three attached documents (Mountains and Rivers of Ireland – attached below) and websites below – some very interesting resources to help boost your knowledge of our Irish Landscape

https://www.osi.ie/education/schools-and-third-level/scales-and-maps/

  • Why not test yourself? https://www.ireland101.com/quiz/mountains-and-islands/

  • Outdoor Art Activity: From your garden (or maybe from an upstairs window) can you spot any mountains in the landscape? Can you see the peaks of any mountain ranges around Louth? Try to draw what you can see (you do not have to do this in your copy) and colour it using paint or whatever colours you might have at home. Use the links below to give you a few tips on how to draw a landscape and possibly a few creatures that you might find in the Irish countryside!

  • Using your mapping skills, and the website listed below, can you figure out what mountains you have captured in your artwork? What mountains/mountain ranges can be seen from Can you label the mountain/mountain ranges?
A little clue: Use a compass (can be found on smart phones or online) to find out which direction the mountains are in, compared to your location.
