Online learning 1st - 5th February

Hi 5th Class!

I hope you all had a lovely weekend, can you believe we are starting February already?! Well done on all of your hard work last week, I love seeing your work and sometimes even your faces or hearing your voices when you read! I heard lots of great opinions last week when you all recorded yourselves which was great!

This week we continue with the topic of Éadaí in Gaeilge and WW1 in English and SESE, we move on to Length in Maths and we will celebrate St. Brigid's Day today. We will continue our 5th V 6th class P.E challenges (don't forget to earn your class some points!!), but possibly something you might find the most exciting this week is starting our Junior Entrepreneur programme! We will start our first lesson on Thursday and next week I am really hoping to get lots of great ideas for products off you all!

I have attached a suggested timetable for the week along with other activities that I have on seesaw but some children might like to print them from here. As always if you have any issues with anything just let me know, I'm here to help! :-)

Slán,
Mrs. Kelly

Online learning: 25th - 29th January

Hello 5th Class!

Well done on another great week of learning last week. I know it can be very hard to stay focused and motivated when we are not in the classroom but you are all doing a great job so please keep it up :-)

A great effort was made to complete a project on Mayan Civilisation and to have it in for last THursday, well done to everyone who took part, I really enjoyed hearing about what you learned!

This week we will be starting a few new topics, in Irish we will start the theme of Éadaí, in Maths we will be working on Decimals, and English and SESE we will be looking at WW1. Don't forget about our 5th V 6th movement challenge. 5th class gathered 20 points over the course of last week so well done! :-)

I have attached a timetable for the week to guide you all along but as per usual all of our work will be on seesaw.

Looking forward to seeing lots of lovely work this week again.

Thanks,
Mrs. Kelly :-)

Hello 5th Class! Week 2 - 18th - 22nd January

Hello boys and girls, I hope you are all keeping well. What a great first week we have had of online teaching and learning. Lots of you have been trying your best and I am so happy to see that, so well done and keep it up!

For this coming week I am attaching a timetable with a brief outline of work. It would be a good idea to print this timetable so that you have it throughout the week and you can stay on task with your work. Just like last week, your tasks will be assigned daily on Seesaw, let me know if you are having any difficulty accessing these.

Don't forget that 5th and 6th class are going head-to-head in a P.E challenge throughout this time while school is closed. Three P.E activities will be posted weekly. If you complete the task  and post a photo or video on seesaw you will earn 1 point for your class... so the more of you that complete our movement challenges the more points we earn! Keep a close eye on seesaw for more infomation!! :-)

I'm looking forward to seeing lots of great work again this week. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you need anything, you can send a note on seesaw or you can email me at rkelly@kilkerleyns.ie

Bye for now,
Mrs. Kelly :-)

Welcome back 5th Class!!! :-)

Hello boys and girls, I hope you all really enjoyed the holidays and had a lovely Christmas and New Year with your families. I hope that you are all keeping safe and well. I am very disappointed that we are not all in the classroom together to start this new year but hopefully we will be in soon. In the meantime we will continue our 5th class learning online. I will now explain how this will happen.

  •      Each day on seesaw I will post your daily work to be completed. As well as posting daily on seesaw, each Monday morning I will post a note on our 5th class school blog page with a brief outline of the work being covered for the full week, this will guide anyone who is having trouble with seesaw or if your internet connection is poor. This way you can always stay up to date with work.  However it is really important that you try to engage with seesaw as there will be lots of great resources there to help you with your learning.

Remember boys and girls when you post your work on seesaw only I can see it, the rest of the class cannot see it. However if you write a comment under our daily work then everyone will see that. At times I may create a group discussion task, on these tasks all children will see your comments. If there is something you would like me to share with the class, maybe something fun you have made or done, you can let me know and I will share it with your classmates.

  •      Try to stay on top of your Maths, English and Irish at least. You will have daily work to complete in these subjects. We will continue with our Master Your Maths daily and other Maths topics, as well as our usual English, Spellings for Me, Irish with reading, writing or grammar activities in both subjects. I will also post work for all other subjects and we will complete some project work also.

  •       We will be getting outside and moving which is very important for our physical and mental health! Here are some ideas for you:
Movement Breaks Ideas

( Complete 3 skill challenges from GAA Go. A new skill challenge can be found at the bottom of this webpage every day!)
Tune in to Joe Wicks YouTube live!
10 at 10 (Operation Transformation) https://ot.rte.ie/get-involved/10-at-10/
GoNoodle - YouTube
Cosmic Yoga -  YouTube
Daily Run - laps of your house! Count how many you can do in 5 minutes? Record your score and try beat it the following day

  •      We will continue to play a Kahoot each Friday based on the work we have learned each week, so do your best to stay on top of your online learning! On Fridays I will send you a link to the kahoot and a game pin and you will be able to login from home. You will have all day to complete the quiz. I will announce the winners every Monday morning!

  •      I suggest that as you complete your tasks you should upload a photo seesaw straight away (this way I can give you feedback). Try to get your work up on seesaw before 3pm each day along with any questions you may have.

  •       I will do my best to reply to your work throughout the day, however as I have my little daughter (who is only 1!) at home with me, it may be tricky at times to reply during school hours and I may need to reply in the evenings.

  •      If you are having any difficulties at all, or need any of your login passwords for anything, please contact me at rkelly@kilkerleyns.ie

Remember 5th class, we are a team and we all have to work together.
 I will do my best
so I’m hoping you will do your best and

together we can get through this!!! :-)

Talk to you all soon,
Mrs. Kelly

P. S I have attached a suggested timetable and a schedule of work for this week (11th - 15th Jan). This is just a guide that may help some of you; keeping routine can be really helpful while learning at home!
