Maths Help - Finding the Full Amount

Hi 5th Class,

Just a little post that might help with your understanding of "Finding the Full Amount when given a percent", which is on Pg. 123 of your Busy at Maths.
I have picked out a few of those questions and made 3 live board videos (attached below) - questions 2, 6, and 4 (Try watch in that order). They might help you with how to solve the questions assigned!

Here is a little video on Khan Academy to help with changing fractions into percentages. The activities to follow are quite hard as they use algebra (which we don't use just yet!). Don't get too bogged down with this video.. if you understand my videos, that's great!
https://www.khanacademy.org/math/pre-algebra/pre-algebra-ratios-rates/pre-algebra-percent-problems/v/finding-percentages-example

And a game that will help practise those skills! :)
http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/mathgames/percentage/MatchingPercentNumber.htm

Whoops, I said this post would be "little"! If you are stuck on anything else in your Maths, as always - please email! :)

Mangahigh Live Lessons

Hi 5th Class,

The website we use to practice some of our Maths skills - Mangahigh, are providing LIVE maths lessons on YouTube everyday!

To prepare for these lessons, have a look at the schedule I have attached. The lessons are split up into age groups - decide what one suits you and check the time of the lesson. Try to have the Mangahigh website open, with you logged in, and then click this link (using a new tab) at the suitable time!

http://www.youtube.com/mangahighvideos

I'll be tuning in to the lessons too, I might pick up some tips! :)

5th Class Suggested Work to Complete at Home (27th April - 1st May)

Hi 5th Class!

I hope you had a nice weekend and enjoyed the fresh air and sun! Here is a list of suggested work to complete this week. As always, there is no pressure to finish all of this work. We all work and learn differently. If you find that you are not able to finish all of this work, that is okay. If you find that you need more to keep you busy – just email!
Although please try your best to finish as much of it as you can as it will keep you on track with your learning. You are in 5th class and should try to take as much responsibility for your own learning as you can.

Also do not forget that you can email me to help you with any part of the work that might confuse you, or if you simply want to say hello.

I have attached a new Suggested Timetable of Work that suits this week’s work. (Attached below)
There is no pressure to follow this, although it might help those who like to follow a timetable, or add some structure to the day. A good idea is to print the Schedule and tick off the work as you complete it – this way you can keep track of the work you finish.

Since more books and copies have arrived home last week, another reminder to keep all books and copies that you have at home neat and safe.

Maths
  • Master Your Maths - To be completed everyday as normal (Week 29)
  • New work on Mangahigh (online – www.mangahigh.com) to complete – 3 tasks based on percentages. Please email me if you need your username and password (missmulholland2020@gmail.com)

Corrections - Week 20th - 24th April

Hi 5th Class,

Here are corrections to this week's Master Your Maths questions, Busy at Maths, English and Gaeilge work. Use these answers to self correct your own work. If you need further explanation on any of the answers - please don't hesitate to email me. :)

Finally, well done on an excellent week of work 5th class! It was wonderful to see so many of you get in contact with me and send in your hard work. I know it is strange doing all this work from home, but I can see how you are adapting to it - you are showing just how mature you are! :) Have a lovely weekend!

Maths Video Lesson - Area

Hi 5th class!

Just a little post to let you know that I can post a video of any Maths question on a whiteboard and share it with you all when you are stuck! All you need to do is let me know what questions you might find difficult by emailing me and I can make a video and post it on the blog for everybody to view! :)
Here is a little video based on one of the Maths activities I have set for you this week (Pg. 117, Q2) to show you how the app works (and also for a little practice myself!).
It should help you with finding the perimeter and area of an irregular shape.

Hope this helps! :)

5th Class Suggested Work to Complete at Home (20th - 24th April)

Hi 5th Class!

I hope you had a relaxing and safe Easter with your family, and that you ate plenty of chocolate!

Here is a list of suggested work to complete this week – try your best to finish as much of it as you can as it will keep that mind of yours growing and thinking hard! You are in 5th class and should try to take as much responsibility for your own learning as you can. Although, if you are unable to complete parts of this work, please do not worry. Also do not forget that you can email me to help you with any part of the work that might confuse you, or if you simply want to say hello.

I understand that this is a strange time for all, so I have included a Suggested Schedule of Work if you would like to follow it. (Attached below)
There is no pressure to follow this, although it might help those who like to follow a timetable, or add some structure to the day. Don’t forget to keep helping out at home and try to get outside into the fresh air and sun as often as you can!

Just a little reminder to keep all books and copies that you have at home neat and safe.

Maths
  • Master Your Maths - To be completed everyday as normal (Week 28)
  • New work on Mangahigh (online – www.mangahigh.com) to complete – 1 task based upon Area.
  • Learning Tables x 8 (Timetables.com)
  • Lesson on this week’s topic: Area (Attached below)
Please email me if you need your username and password J (missmulholland2020@gmail.com)

Gaeilge
  • Litriú – Fill in and learn spellings – To be completed everyday as normal (Attached below)

SESE/Art/STEM
Weekly Topic: Leonardo DaVinci
1. Read Pg. 18 –21 of your Small World History Book
2. Pick which option you would prefer to do: A or B
Option A - Recreate one of Leonardo da Vinci’s famous paintings – you can choose from “The Last Supper”, “The Mona Lisa” or any of his famous paintings that you like. You can use any art material that you might have at home to recreate the painting, it does not have to be paint. Can you use objects from your garden? For example, grass, leaves, twigs, soil?
Option B – Can you create a canal lock like Leonardo da Vinci, using recycled items at home? Think about our Engineer’s Week challenge – what materials did we use there were water-proof? Have a look at this website, including the video at the bottom of the webpage. http://www.leonardodavincisinventions.com/civil-engineering-inventions/leonardo-da-vincis-canal-lock/
