1/9/2021 0 Comments Welcome back 5th Class!!! :-)Hello boys and girls, I hope you all really enjoyed the holidays and had a lovely Christmas and New Year with your families. I hope that you are all keeping safe and well. I am very disappointed that we are not all in the classroom together to start this new year but hopefully we will be in soon. In the meantime we will continue our 5th class learning online. I will now explain how this will happen.
Remember boys and girls when you post your work on seesaw only I can see it, the rest of the class cannot see it. However if you write a comment under our daily work then everyone will see that. At times I may create a group discussion task, on these tasks all children will see your comments. If there is something you would like me to share with the class, maybe something fun you have made or done, you can let me know and I will share it with your classmates.

9/17/2020 0 Comments 5th class visit Roche Castle5th class have been learning about the Normans and life in Norman times. This week we went on a field trip to Roche Castle. The boys and girls had so much fun!
When we arrived we took a tour of the castle and identified different features of the castle including the banquet hall, the dungeon, the walkway for the archers, we identified where the barbican once stood and the secret passageway as well as the famous murder window. The children carried out some map work, sketched the castle and then took part in a drama lesson where the O’Neills from the hills of Forkhill came to confront The Normans to try to gain their lands back. We had a wonderful day! What a great start to September 😊 6/25/2020 1 Comment Goodbye 5th Class!Hi 5th Class! This is just a little post to say a massive well done to all of you on a fantastic year completed in 5th class! In school and at home, you have put in so much work to further your own learning. You should be so so proud of yourselves, because I am! It is almost impossible to believe the year has come to an end, and in such a strange way! You made me feel so welcome when I arrived knocking on the door back in November, and Mrs. Kelly was so proud to hand you over. I hope you have a fantastic year in 6th class - you have so many things to look forward to. I am certain that you will be the brilliant role models for the younger classes! As some of you may know, I won't be returning to Kilkerley next year as I am hoping to teach in a different country next year! I am very sad about leaving the most wonderful school and the most beautiful children, but I am also excited! I will certainly be back to visit you all! Here is a little video to sum up what you have been up to at home during the last few months (including the promised bake-off pictures and videos!), and some pictures from our year together! I hope you enjoy. :) Have a fantastic summer, and please stay safe! All my love, Miss Mulholland Hi 5th class!
Below, I have written a list of books/series of books that you might like to explore over the summer months. Reading over the summer will keep that mind of yours sharp, and it can be wonderful to get lost in a good book! The books below include new books (just released), and not-so-new books (what my brothers and I used to read when we were younger!). Some of these books might be a little scary or sad, so it would be a very good idea to ask a parent/guardian if they think the book is suitable for you. Just like movies, books can be scary or might not be appropriate for your age. Always check with a parent or guardian, before you want to read something that might give you a fright! I have put a little red star beside the books that you should double-check with a parent/guardian before reading, as they might make you jump! Enjoy! Harry Potter Series* (My absolute favourite series!) by J.K. Rowling The Chronicles of Narnia Series* by C.S. Lewis Darren Shan Series* by Darren O'Shaughnessy Dork Diaries by Rachel Renee Russell The Misadventures of Max Crumbly by Rachel Renee Russell Skulduggery Pleasant* by Derek Landy The Famous Five Series by Enid Blyton Artemis Fowl Series by Eoin Colfer Eragon* by Christopher Paolini Skeleton Key* by Anthony Horowitz A Series of Unfortunate Events* by Lemony Snicket The Hunger Games Series* by Suzanne Collins The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien Wonder by R.J. Pallacio Gangsta Granny by David Walliams If you have a favourite book or book series that you absolutely loved, and you would like to share that book with us, please comment it below to share with all in 5th class! We would love to hear your recommendations too! Don’t forget about the local library for easy access to many of your favourite books. https://www.louthcoco.ie/en/services/library/online-services/ Kind regards, Miss Mulholland 6/22/2020 0 Comments Bake Off Winners! As you may know, your parents/guardians are collecting your belongings from the school this evening and tomorrow evening. If you entered The Great Fifth Class Bake Off, have a close look through your belongings as you may be a winner!
6/21/2020 0 Comments Our Final Week of 5th Class!Hi 5th Class, We did it! It is our final week of 5th class! Can you believe it? You have all worked so hard throughout this year, and you should be very proud of yourselves! Try to keep an eye on the blog over the last week for a few helpful posts and maybe a surprise or two! We are one week away from summer! Summer can be such a fun time for everybody as the sun is shining and we can spend a lot of time outside! It is also a time where many accidents can happen in water, on the road or on the farm. So to finish off the school year, we are focusing on five areas of safety – keeping ourselves safe on the internet, in water, on the road, on the farm and keeping ourselves safe through hand hygiene/respiratory etiquette. These lessons are extremely important, so please engage with them as best as you can. Keeping Ourselves Safe on the Internet
Keeping Ourselves Safe in Water
Keeping Ourselves Safe on the Road Have fun with the Safe Cross Code Game above! Make sure to pick your correct age for the game.

As I said previously, keep an eye on the blog over the week for some fantastic book suggestions and maybe a little surprise or two! :) Keep safe boys and girls! Miss Mulholland ![]()

You have been working incredible hard and have gained some amazing skills over the past few months – including how to learn from a distance! So we have two more weeks of hard work from home before the summer so please give it your very best effort! This week we are focusing on keeping ourselves safe on the internet. Our safety online is even more important now, as we are all at home, and we are using the internet often - to learn from home, and also to communicate with friends. We have already explored some parts of the lesson in class during February and March, but it is important to revise what we have learned. Please engage with the lesson as best as you can. Here is a menu of suggested work to complete for this week. As I have said before, try to complete as much of the work assigned as you can, and please try your best to keep in contact with me by sending on pictures of completed work on Seesaw or through email. I do not mind if this work is sent daily, or at the end of the week – whatever suits you best! As always, I have attached a Suggested Schedule of Work to help those who need a little bit of structure in their learning. Maths

6/10/2020 0 Comments Maths Help! (Pie-charts)Hi 5th Class!
The YouTube link below explains how to change the percentage of a pie-chart into degrees. It may help you with pg. 153 and pg. 154 of your Busy at Maths. Take note: when she finds 50% of 360 - she changes the 50% into a decimal (0.5) and multiplies that by 360. Notice how she writes a dot instead of a multiplication sign? That's ok - that is called a multiplication dot and means to multiply. That is a perfect solution! We have practised finding this a different way - changing 50% into a fraction (1/2), then dividing by the bottom (360 divided by 2 = 180), and multiplying by the top (180 x 1 = 180). Both methods are perfect so feel free to explore that! https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=95&v=QAArbrux1FI&feature=emb_logo I have also linked a game to get your brain back into the fraction/percentage/decimal frame-of-mind! https://www.mathgoodies.com/games/conversions If you would like any more help with any of the Maths problems in your Busy at Maths, or your Master Your Maths, please don't hesitate to ask! Miss Mulholland Hi 5th class, So we are coming close to the end of our school year, and I know it can be hard to keep your motivation high. Try your best to put as much effort into the last few weeks of learning as you can! We have a little more work to finish, particularly in your Maths, so let's try our very best to get as much learning from 5th class as we possible can! Here is a list of suggested work to complete for this week. As always, only complete what suits you and your family best, but in saying that, try to cover as much as you can. Maths

6/5/2020 0 Comments Virtual Tour Time! It's Friday... Time for our Virtual Tours! Enjoy!
Our first stop! Say hi to the llamas for me! https://www.youvisit.com/tour/machupicchu?pl=f And our final stop, up North for some lego fun! https://www.visitorlando.com/en/things-to-do/virtual-tours/legoland-florida-resort Well done to those who guessed correctly using the clues from this week's suggested work! Have a wonderful weekend, 5th class! Miss Mulholland 6/4/2020 0 Comments Seesaw!Hi 5th Class,
Seesaw has been up and running for our class for 3 days now, and I am delighted with all the work I am receiving on it - from wonderful written activities, to pictures, to videos of your sports day challenges! Well done! I hope it is easy to use for you all. Any questions - I am only an email away. (missmulholland2020@gmail.com) If you have still not accessed Seesaw, ask your parents to check for an email from myself. If they have not received one, feel free to email me, and I will explain what Seesaw is, and how to set it up. If you are unable to set up Seesaw, please do not worry. I will continue to check my email as often as I can for your incoming work. Lastly, I have already received some amazing local history projects - I am so excited to read and learn from more of you! If you would like to upload the project to Seesaw, that is perfect, or normal email is great too! Hope you are all looking forward to our.. TWO virtual tours tomorrow! Have you guessed where we are going? Get that school tour lunch packed... you can't miss the best lunch of the year! Miss Mulholland 6/1/2020 8 Comments Sports Day/School Tour Week!Hi 5th Class! I hope you had a fabulous long weekend, and spent plenty of time out in the sun! I also hope you didn't forget your sun cream! This week is a special week. If we were in school this week, we would have had our Sports Day and we also would have been going on our school tour on Friday! Unfortunately, they cannot happen as normal this year, but they can happen...virtually! This week, instead of the usual work assigned, I have given you tasks to complete for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and your Virtual School Tour will happen on Friday. The tasks I have given you might be clues to where our Virtual School Tour is going to take place... See can you figure it out! Clue: We are going to a "Southern" continent... followed by some fun in a "Northern" continent... Can you think of a continent that has a North and South? This week, we will also have a Virtual Sports Day, so have a look on the School Blog for details on how you can get involved! I would love to see your participation in Virtual Sports Day, by filling out the "Sports Day Planner" with your family and uploading it to Seesaw! :) The activities can be completed any time throughout the week. Did you spot the Teacher's Virtual Sports Day Video? Mr. Loughran should have waited until my shoe was tied - how bold! Now that Seesaw is up and running, it would be great if you could upload this week's completed work on Seesaw, instead of emailing it to me. (You might have to email me your Local History Project, that is okay! Reminder - Due on Friday!) If you need any help with Seesaw, don't hesitate to email me! Your work for this week (Tuesday - Thursday) is as follows: (No need to complete spellings, MYM, tables, etc. Only complete what is below for this week.) 1. History - The Inca Civilisation
2. Maths - Virtual Sports Day Activity (Length)
3. English - Creative Writing - Letter/Persuasive
4. Art - Inca Metal Tooling/Lego Temple
Friday - Virtual School Tour Day! (I will post the Virtual School Tour on Friday! It's a surprise!) YAY! Have you guessed where we might be going? Enjoy this week's work, Fifth Class! It is sad that we cannot have our usual Sports Day and School Tour but I hope you get some enjoyment from the activities this week! Miss you all! Miss Mulholland ![]()

Miss Mulholland ![]()
Hi 5th Class! So I have finished gathering all the evidence of the hard work you have put into the Junior Entrepreneur Programme this year, and I have it ready in a folder to post tomorrow morning. This folder showcases the work you have put in, up until school closure, and the team at JEP will judge what you have completed! Don't worry, we did not have to have the programme completed (as all schools closed), but the team at JEP wanted to have a look at what we completed up until the school closure. It was only when I spread out all the ideas, art, posters, etc. on my kitchen table, did I realise just how much you have completed as a class. Well done to you all, I am very proud of you! Here are a few pictures of what I am sending away tomorrow, and I have also included the video that our Story Telling Team had started (not finished.... yet!) for you to have a look at! I will email the JEP team the photos of your work throughout the year and this video too! "Miss Mulholland, when can we finish and sell the Super Spinners?" To be honest 5th class, I am not sure yet. I am talking to Mrs. Kirby to see can something be arranged for you to get an opportunity to finish and sell the spinners, so please be patient and we will try our very best to give you that chance. :) Enjoy!! Miss Mulholland ![]()

5/26/2020 0 Comments Project UpdateHi 5th class,
We only have a four day working week this week 5th class, as we would have been off on Friday 29th and Monday 1st June for the bank holiday. Make sure to relax and take a break from the hard work you have been doing. We all need to recharge! I originally set the date for your Local History Project as the 1st June, without taking the long weekend into consideration, so I have moved that date to Friday 5th June instead. Hopefully it'll give you an extra few days to complete it. So far, I have heard about wonderful research online, some of you have already held interviews with relatives and friends, and I also heard about some photographers taking photos around the parish! :D I have been doing a little research myself - this photograph might give a clue about our school's history! 5/25/2020 0 Comments Gramadach GaeilgeThis website relates to Activity No. 3 in your Gaeilge lesson this week, which should have been attached to the blog post.

Can you believe we are nearly in the month of June? It had me thinking of all the lovely things that would be happening in our school over these few months, and I am really missing seeing you all and hearing the craic from you every day. Here is a menu of suggested work to complete this week. I have changed things around a little bit to shake up routine! As said before, try to complete as much of the work assigned as you can, and please try your best to keep in contact with me by sending on pictures of completed work. Remember that I am recording what is being sent and providing feedback. I have received absolutely fabulous pieces of work already – keep it up! Some of you send me pictures of your work daily, and others send pictures of all your week’s work at the end of the week. Both options suit me, as long as I can see what work you are completing as often as possible. It is just lovely to receive the work you complete at home! As always, I have attached a Suggested Schedule of Work to help those who need a little bit of structure in their learning. Maths
