Sports Day/School Tour Week!

Hi 5th Class!

I hope you had a fabulous long weekend, and spent plenty of time out in the sun! I also hope you didn't forget your sun cream!

This week is a special week. If we were in school this week, we would have had our Sports Day and we also would have been going on our school tour on Friday! Unfortunately, they cannot happen as normal this year, but they can happen...virtually! This week, instead of the usual work assigned, I have given you tasks to complete for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and your Virtual School Tour will happen on Friday. The tasks I have given you might be clues to where our Virtual School Tour is
going to take place... See can you figure it out! Clue: We are going to a "Southern" continent... followed by some fun in a "Northern" continent... Can you think of a continent that has a North and South?

This week, we will also have a Virtual Sports Day, so have a look on the School Blog for details on how you can get involved! I would love to see your participation in Virtual Sports Day, by filling out the "Sports Day Planner" with your family and uploading it to Seesaw! :) The activities can be completed any time throughout the week.
Did you spot the Teacher's Virtual Sports Day Video? Mr. Loughran should have waited until my shoe was tied - how bold!

Now that Seesaw is up and running, it would be great if you could upload this week's completed work on Seesaw, instead of emailing it to me. (You might have to email me your Local History Project, that is okay! Reminder - Due on Friday!) If you need any help with Seesaw, don't hesitate to email me!

Your work for this week (Tuesday - Thursday) is as follows:
(No need to complete spellings, MYM, tables, etc. Only complete what is below for this week.)

1. History - The Inca Civilisation
  • Read the attached Power Point on The Inca Civilisation.
  • Explore the website attached: https://incas.mrdonn.org/ . Underneath "For Kids", read 3 other topics of your choice!
  • In your SESE copy, list 5 facts about the Inca Civilisation, and list 5 similiarities/differences between the Inca Civilisation and the Mayan Civilisation.

2. Maths - Virtual Sports Day Activity (Length)
  • Using your knowledge of length, create a 20 meter obstacle course outside.
  • How might you measure 20 metres? Think back to when we were learning about length... Did we create anything that might help us measure a metre? If your garden is shorter than 50 metres, how can you make the obstacle course? Can you curve the course? This can be recorded on your family "Sports Day Planner"! I would love to see videos of you trying out your own obstacle course! You can upload the video to Seesaw if you wish!

3. English - Creative Writing - Letter/Persuasive
  • Imagine you are a Commoner of the Inca Civilisation. You are very angry at the Sapa Inca (The Head of Government of the Inca Civilisation) because you have no freedom! You cannot even go out for a walk without their permission! Write a letter to the Sapa Inca. Explain what you do not like about being a Commoner, and why you think your lack of freedom is unfair. Maybe you could suggest changing the rules, or give ideas of alternative rules which would make your life more enjoyable!

4. Art - Inca Metal Tooling/Lego Temple
  • The Inca were wonderful craftspeople, and often used metal, gold and silver to create beautiful art pieces, masks, and jewellery. See pictures attached below of examples of beautiful Inca-inspired metal pieces! Explore this website for even more examples: https://www.ancient.eu/Inca_Art/
  • What do you notice about the Metal artwork? What designs do you see?
  • Using ordinary tin foil (found in your kitchen, with your parent's permission), use the blunt end of a pencil or paintbrush to create your own Inca Metal Tooling piece! You are free to do any design you would like! See the video attached below of how I began to create an Inca Metal Tooling mask.
OR
  • Create an Inca Temple from Lego! How high and wide can you build it? (Lego might be another clue to our Virtual School Tour!)

Friday - Virtual School Tour Day! (I will post the Virtual School Tour on Friday! It's a surprise!) YAY! Have you guessed where we might be going?

Enjoy this week's work, Fifth Class! It is sad that we cannot have our usual Sports Day and School Tour but I hope you get some enjoyment from the activities this week!

Miss you all!

Hi Adrian,
Your parents should have received an email and text about Seesaw, which is an online app to upload your finished work to. If you didn't receive the email, please email my address "missmulholland2020@gmail.com" and I will send it to you and get you up and running with it! :)
