Suggested Work to Complete at Home 15th June - 19th June

Hi 5th Class,

Can you believe how close we are to the summer holidays? You have been working incredible hard and have gained some amazing skills over the past few months – including how to learn from a distance! So we have two more weeks of hard work from home before the summer so please give it your very best effort!

This week we are focusing on keeping ourselves safe on the internet. Our safety online is even more important now, as we are all at home, and we are using the internet often - to learn from home, and also to communicate with friends. We have already explored some parts of the lesson in class during February and March, but it is important to revise what we have learned. Please engage with the lesson as best as you can.

Here is a menu of suggested work to complete for this week. As I have said before, try to complete as much of the work assigned as you can, and please try your best to keep in contact with me by sending on pictures of completed work on Seesaw or through email. I do not mind if this work is sent daily, or at the end of the week – whatever suits you best!

As always, I have attached a Suggested Schedule of Work to help those who need a little bit of structure in their learning.

Maths
  • Master Your Maths – Two Weekly Tests only. Try to really test yourself, for example, put away any books or copies that might help you, just the way we do in school. Once you complete it, you can email me for answers, correct your work, and figure out the questions you mightn’t have got right.
  • Learning Tables x 4  – Daily practise orally or on Timestables.com
  • Lesson on this week’s topic: Equations/Chance (Attached below)

English
  • Spellings: Next spelling list (Attached below). Choose a spelling challenge to do every day, using as much words as possible from the list. Spelling challenges attached below.
  • Lesson on this week’s topic: Said is DEAD (Attached below)

Gaeilge
  • Litriú – Fill in and learn spellings – To be completed everyday as normal (Attached below)
  • Lesson on this week’s topic: Caitheamh Aimsire (Attached below)
  • Foclóir agus Frásaí – Caitheamh Aimsire (Both word document and recording attached below)

Religion
  • Grow in Love: We are on Theme 9: We Are Called to Love and Serve the Church
Explore Lesson 2: The Sacrament of Holy Orders, with corresponding pages (from pg. 102) in your Grow in Love book.

SPHE - Internet Safety
Lesson taken from Webwise.ie - full of resources for learning about Online Safety if you would like to explore further!
  • Let's get thinking about the internet and why we use it. It is a wonderful thing when used smartly! Fill out the "My Use of the Internet" worksheet (attached below), and if you would like, complete the interview on worksheet too.
  • Play the "Technology Through The Ages Quiz" with somebody at home (attached below) - the answers are directly below the questions, so you might want to cover the answers as you or somebody at home guesses! Feel free to read the answer after guessing.
  • Watch "Vicky's Party" (attached below). We have watched this video as a class already, but this is a chance to watch it at home and discuss the video and the following activity with a parent or guardian.
  • Siobhán's Conscience - In the video, "Vicky's Party", Siobhán decides to stay and check on Vicky. Can you give advice to Siobhán? What should she do? Write 3 tips/further actions for Siobhán in your copy.
A little reminder of the language we use when online, be it Snapchat/TikTok or any online platform. Here is an analogy we shared together back in March, Fifth Class – If I am not comfortable wearing it on my t-shirt or shouting it out loud in a room full of people, I shouldn't type it online.

The Great FIFTH CLASS Bake OFF
There has been so many fantastic entries to the Great Fifth Class Bake Off! During the week, I will post a video of all your fabulous creations, and a poll for you to vote for your favourite baked good! (No voting for yourself, silly!)
Watch this space!!!

Keep sending me your as much of your work as possible, 5th class, be it through Seesaw or email! You are doing a fabulous job, keep it up!
