Suggested Work to Complete at Home (25th May - 29th May)

Hi 5th Class,

I hope you are all keeping safe, well and happy 5th class! Can you believe we are nearly in the month of June? It had me thinking of all the lovely things that would be happening in our school over these few months, and I am really missing seeing you all and hearing the craic from you every day.

Here is a menu of suggested work to complete this week. I have changed things around a little bit to shake up routine!

As said before, try to complete as much of the work assigned as you can, and please try your best to keep in contact with me by sending on pictures of completed work. Remember that I am recording what is being sent and providing feedback. I have received absolutely fabulous pieces of work already – keep it up!

Some of you send me pictures of your work daily, and others send pictures of all your week’s work at the end of the week. Both options suit me, as long as I can see what work you are completing as often as possible. It is just lovely to receive the work you complete at home!

As always, I have attached a Suggested Schedule of Work to help those who need a little bit of structure in their learning.

Maths
  • Master Your Maths – Two Weekly Tests only. Try to really test yourself, for example, put away any books or copies that might help you, just the way we do in school. Once you complete it, you can email me for answers, correct your work, and figure out the questions you mightn’t have got right.
  • Learning Tables x 2 – Daily practise orally or on Timestables.com
  • Lesson on this week’s topic: Number Theory (Attached below)

English
  • Spellings: Next spelling list (Attached below). Choose a spelling challenge from the Spell Well Activities to do every day, using as much words as possible from the list. Spell Well Activities attached below. This document can be printed and folded into a reusable book.
  • Free Writing: This can be completed in your copy or an Imagine Forest. Feel free to write about anything you would like! A story, report, procedure... your choice!
  • Lesson on this week’s topic: His First Flight/Oral Language History (Attached below)

Gaeilge
  • Litriú – Fill in and learn spellings – To be completed everyday as normal (Attached below)
  • Lesson on this week’s topic: An Aimsir (Tom Crean) (Attached below)
  • Foclóir agus Frásaí – I have attached the appropriate Foclóir agus Frásaí and recording for “Mé Féin”. This is not the theme that you are working on in this week’s lesson, but I would like you to read, listen and revise the foclóir agus frásaí for “Mé Féin”, for a fun assignment next week!

History
Our Local History – Project Work (Continuation from previous week)
Refer to last week’s blog post for shared expectations of Local History Project and for helpful resources.
This week, I have included additional websites to help with research of the history of your local area, and I have also included some help in terms of how to present your project.

Type or write an essay style project. A great format for including as much information as possible. Don’t forget to include tables of contents and cover page.
  • Poster
A lovely format for including pieces of writing, pictures and diagrams. A good choice for those who enjoy the artistic element of a project.
  • Power Point
For those who might like to use technology. A great opportunity to practise typing and power point skills for second level education.
  • Prezi (Website, found online)
For those of you who would like a technological challenge! A beautiful and impressive way to present information.

Due Date: 1st June 2020 1 more week to complete
Marked out of 100 – 50/100 given to presentation; 50/100 given to information

SPHE
  • In this month of May, our theme is My Decisions. Our decisions affect ourselves, our thoughts and others! This week, I would like you to make a conscience decision to think positively. It may not be easy during this time, but when we decide that we are going to think in positive thoughts, we might just have a positive effect on ourselves and others!
  • Attached to this blog post is an activity sheet that asks you to change negative thoughts into positive thoughts. Here is an example of one I have seen about the country’s lockdown - "I am not stuck at home, I am safe at home"
  • Our KiVa Programme! Feel free to make your way through the game! Remember your login and password should be found in your Homework Diary.

Art
  • Taking into consideration the person you have interviewed for your Local History Project, wouldn’t it be nice to include an image of this person with your project?
  • Using pencil, draw a face portrait of the person you have interviewed (with their permission). You are welcome to colour in the portrait too!
Here are a helpful video on portrait drawing!
