6/21/2020 1 Comment Mon 22nd - Friday 26th JuneTo all of 4th class, This is my last time writing to you. I want to begin by saying how lucky I felt to be teaching you this year. You were a fun, enthusiastic class and I hope you will still say hello to me when you are in 5th class. Your new teacher will be very lucky to have you! Thank you for all the work you sent on via email and Seesaw. Many of you spent a lot of time on maths. This will be an enormous help when you are in 5th. I loved seeing your projects and your beautiful art work. It was great to hear about you doing other activities like baking and playing outside. Don’t worry about the work you found difficult or were unable to complete. Teachers understand this and will be doing lots of revision in the autumn term. Your parents will be collecting your books etc this week and they will be returning the book rental. Can you take some responsibility for this? Help to check everything is returned and make sure it is in the same condition you received it. If anything is lost or damaged just let the school know. I have included art work in the bag you will be receiving but I will have to give you back your masks in September as they don’t have your names on them. The plan of work looks a little different this week partly because it is our last week, partly because you will be returning the book rental and also because there are some important life skills you may need to be reminded of. Maths: Complete pupil profile assessment booklet for the Busy at Maths. This is in the bag your parents will be collecting. It will give you an idea of the areas in maths you find tricky and you can congratulate yourself on all that you have learnt. I have included the answer booklet on the blog this week. Do a maths trail around your home. There is one you could try but you could create one for yourself or for a younger sibling to attempt. Cross Curricular Work: Water/Road /Farm Safety: https://www.gov.ie/en/publication/7f3dab-water-safety/ http://www.agrikids.ie/safety-circle.php Have a look at the links online and the information sheets. With this in mind there are a range of activities around the topic of safety I have included for you to try. You can design a poster, do the road safety crossword, try the farm safety quiz and see if you can spot the dangers in the pictures. Handwashing: Watch this video to make sure you are washing your hands properly. This will be especially important when we return to school. You could make a poster to display in the school when we return. https://www.safefood.eu/Food-Safety/Steps-to-handwashing.aspx PE: You might find it fun to try this active schools week . Thank you and I hope you have a lovely summer, Mrs Halpin ![]()
6/14/2020 0 Comments School Closure Work 15th-19th JuneHello again 4th class. Thank you for all the work you sent back on Seesaw. Only two weeks of home schooling to go and then we will be on our summer holidays. As always I have planned out lots of work for the week but while I want you to do your best it is ok if you do not complete all of it. The Busy at Maths is probably the work to spend most time doing and whatever you can fit in after that fine.

English: Write a poem about lockdown and how you have spent the past few months! Your poem can take any shape you like, but here are some ideas: ACROSTIC L O C K D O W N LIMERICK The sound of a Limerick is so distinctive: two longer lines, two short ones, and a closing longer line that makes a joke! Dixon Lanier Merritt: A wonderful bird is the pelican, His bill can hold more than his beli-can. He can take in his beak Food enough for a week But I’m damned if I see how the heli-can. FREE VERSE In free verse, there are no rules! You don’t use regular patterns of rhythm or rhyme or lines of any particular length. Yes, you can do whatever you want…which means it can be hard to know where to start. But give it a go!

Art: Do a picture of your two favourite items that you’ve been using at home since school closed. You can use any type of material you like to do this – chalk, pencil, paint, watercolour etc. These can be 2- D or you can challenge yourself to make them 3-D! One idea is to do an observational pencil drawing of your bicycle. Do you remember how we did an observational drawing of your shoe? You could take out your bicycle and draw exactly what you see. Thank you Mrs Halpin Dear parents, The book rental will be collected in school the week beginning 22nd June. The priority over the next two weeks is to work on the main concepts in the final chapters of the Busy at Maths. In senior classes teachers always find it challenging to complete the maths curriculum for their year group. While I am suggesting working on a number of chapters in maths this week and next needless to say, it is only necessary to attempt a couple from each section and focus on what is beneficial for your child. As you may be aware, last week some classes trialled an app called Seesaw, which can be used as a means of communication between school and home. This week Seesaw will also be an option for sending back work in 4th class. I am aware that it is late in the academic year to be introducing this new initiative so please do not feel under any obligation to use this method. The aim is for the school to assess the pros and cons of such a system as we may wish to or need to implement it in the next school year. I will be in touch with you individually via email which will explain Seesaw in more detail and give you a code which you will need should you choose to engage. Of course you are still welcome to stay in touch and send work via email. Thank you for your support, Clodagh Halpin. Hello again 4th class. Thank you Mrs Halpin Mrs Halpin’s contact details: chalpin65@gmail.comI am very happy to receive any examples of your work and will try to help if you have any queries. Hello 4th class. I hope you are all keeping safe and doing your best to help with jobs in your house. I know it’s not easy doing schoolwork at home. Remember be proud of whatever you have achieved and don’t focus on what you didn’t complete. I try to get Cian and Aoife to start and finish schoolwork at the same time each week day. We look at the list their teacher has set and pick out what we feel is most important and what is of greatest interest to them. We then tick off anything that is completed. You will be happy to know that Monday is a bank holiday so this is a four day week! Tuesday 5thMay- Friday 8thMay Maths: Busy at Maths is available on the MyCJFallon.ie. Geography: Mini Project: Japan: Your job is to increase tourism to Japan. Think of ways to inform potential tourists about Japan. They might like to know about the map, the culture, the food, the traditional clothing, the places of interest, the writing. If you look on the internet be sure to change it into your own words. There is also lots of help in Unit 13 “Small World” Geography and Science You could do this work on an A3 sheet or a double page in your SESE copy. You may wish to draw or print out some pictures to go with your writing. See the page about Japan below. Religion:
