School Closure Work 15th-19th June

Hello again 4th class. Thank you for all the work you sent back on Seesaw.   Only two weeks of home schooling to go and then we will be on our summer holidays. As always I have planned out lots of work for the week but while I want you to do your best it is ok if you do not complete all of it. The Busy at Maths is probably the work to spend most time doing and whatever you can fit in after that fine.

Maths :
Busy at Maths:
  •  Chapter 32 Area: See tutorials 104-107 A practical activity that could be fun to try could be to draw a square metre on the ground outside using chalk and a measuring tape.
  • Chapter 33 Capacity: See tutorials 108-109 If you understood chapter 27 on the kilometre and the chapter on weight, it works in the same way. Remember 1000m = 1km 1000g= 1 kg and 1000ml = 1 L. If you are doing the problem solving on p167 just be careful to convert all numbers in the sum to the units required in the answer and put your decimal points directly under each other.       When you are baking ask your parent can you measure out the liquid in the measuring jug.
  • Chapter 34 Number Sentences: You could play the mystery number game say “I am thinking of a number. I add 4. My answer is 12 “ for example.

Gaeilge :

If you go to FolensOnline.ie you can access our Gaeilge programme Abair Liom F. Go to FolensOnline.ie and click register. Select teacher. Fill in a username, email and password. For Roll Number use the code Prim20. Once you have an account you can click on the “resources” part of the Abair Liom F and access all the stories, games songs and poems.

  • “Ag an Aerfort” L156-163. Try to listen to the story, chat and the “Ar Saoire” poem as many days as you can. Play the vocabulary game that accompanies the poster. Talk to your family in Irish if possible .It doesn’t have to be perfect.  Éist leis an scéal, an comhrá  agus an dán. Imir an cluiche. If you feel you could attempt any of the written follow up please do. If not do not worry it will still improve your Irish just listening to the online resources.

  •  Cúla 4: Have a look if you have time at TG4’s version of RTE’s Homeschool Hub. It is on TG4 at 10am. https://www.cula4.com/en/

English:
Write a poem about lockdown and how you have spent the past few months! Your poem can take any shape you like, but here are some ideas:

ACROSTIC
L
O
C
K
D
O
W
N
LIMERICK
The sound of a Limerick is so distinctive: two longer lines, two short ones, and a closing longer line that makes a joke!

Dixon Lanier Merritt:
A wonderful bird is the pelican,
His bill can hold more than his beli-can.
He can take in his beak
Food enough for a week
But I’m damned if I see how the heli-can.

FREE VERSE
In free verse, there are no rules! You don’t use regular patterns of rhythm or rhyme or lines of any particular length. Yes, you can do whatever you want…which means it can be hard to know where to start. But give it a go!

  • Read every day. Keep a copy and dictionary beside you. Note down any new words and look up their meaning.
  • Spelling Journal: Learn and complete sentences for week.
  • Continue your own free writing copy. Refer to ideas on our class sheet
  • One page of handwriting
  • Away with Words: P70 “Compound Words” A-C (Answers only)

Religion:
  • Grow In Love :trial@growinlove.ie   password: growinlove
  • Grow in Love Textbook Theme “God forgives us” P82-84

Art:
Do a picture of your two favourite items that you’ve been using at home since school closed. You can use any type of material you like to do this – chalk, pencil, paint, watercolour etc. These can be 2- D or you can challenge yourself to make them 3-D! One idea is to do an observational pencil drawing of your bicycle. Do you remember how we did an observational drawing of your shoe? You could take out your bicycle and draw exactly what you see.

SPHE:
