4/27/2018 0 Comments On Fridays we do maths stations! We work in small groups and swap activity when the bell rings after 8 minutes. The stations change each week depending on what topic we are covering in maths lessons.
Stations this week were: 1. The Shop - buying and selling toy food using 1c, 2c and 5c coins. Each pair had a cash register and took turns being the customer and the shopkeeper. 2. Counting Money Matching Game - adding and matching sets of coins to their values 3. Roll and Build - roll the dice and build a tower of cubes to match that number 4. Jigsaws - planning and analysis, concentration and memory We work in small groups for literacy stations. Each group carries out a different activity for 8 minutes. When teacher rings the bell, we tidy up and move to the next activity. One group works independently and the other three groups work with a teacher.
Table 1: Sight Word Bingo! We read all of the words first with Mrs. Curran - Butler. We talk about what the words mean and put them into sentences. We all take a bingo card and place counters on the words as they are called out. When all of our words have been called out we shout - 'BINGO!' Table 2: Independent Writing Table. We practice letter formation, capital letters, pencil grip, writing words and sentences at this table. Table 3: The Reading Table. Mrs. Johnston gives us a new reader every week. We are reading PM readers at the moment. We focus on using our fingers to follow the words from left to right, identifying familiar and tricky words and talking about the story. We read independently and as a group at this table. Table 4: Phonics/Phonological Awareness. We play lots of different literacy games at this table - phonics games, blend and match, spelling games and rhyming games. This week, we were focusing on syllables. Each child took a syllable counting card and some classroom toys. We sorted the toys into one syllable, two syllable and three syllable words. 4/23/2018 0 Comments World Book Day in Junior Infants!Junior Infants had great fun dressing up as their favourite characters from stories and books for World Book Day. We had a parade after lunch to show off our fantastic costumes. Fourth class took us outside for some buddy reading in the sunshine. We chose books from our library and fourth class read them to us. It was great fun!

We have five play areas. Have a look at our pictures to see what we got up to in each play area. This Aistear theme had strong links to Maths (patterns and counting), Visual Arts (designing and making), STEM (pre-coding) and Literacy (using letter beads to personalise jewellery and creating stories during the Aistear planning process). |
