Letter from Mrs Kirby 12th June

Dear Parents/ Guardians,

Covid 19 has brought about many changes to our society and to family life and practices. One of these has been the reliance on social media to keep in touch. While social media has many advantages, it can also have disadvantages when not used correctly.

In February, our teachers conducted internet safety awareness lessons with their respective classes. Over the next two weeks, teachers will revise these key messages with their classes. It is very important that you and your child engage with these lessons.Apps such as Snapchat and Tik Tok are recommended for children aged 13 years and over. If your child is using these platforms then you need to be aware of this. These platforms can often be the setting for hurtful name-calling, verbal abuse and bullying.

As parents, we have a responsibility for educating and supporting our children in the correct use of the internet and social media platforms, as well as protecting them from accidentally causing hurt to themselves or others through what they post on social media platforms.

Your support in this matter is greatly appreciated.

Best wishes,
Donna Kirby
