6th Class Blog
A special message for all the boys and girls in sixth class on their last full day in Scoil Mhuire gan Smál.
Our final week! It’s hard to believe!
This week we are looking at some very important topics, not just for the summertime, but all year round.
I know we looked at internet safety already this year however as you move on to second level and begin to use technology more and more the importance of staying safe and being responsible online grows even greater.
To revise I would recommend re-watching the videos on the webwise site and complete the activities attached.
Summertime is a fantastic opportunity to head out for a cycle with your family, friends or by yourself. It is really important to be road wise when on your bike. Watch the video on cycle safety below.
Hand Hygiene and Respiratory Etiquette
A hugely important topic in our current times. Watch the videos below and come up with a catchy slogan to promote hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette that I could use in my classroom in September.
Some other activities:
Looking after yourself both physically and mentally is very important all year round and especially during stressful times like these. Below are some activities and suggestions that you may like to help support your health and well being.
I will upload any worksheets to the SeeSaw app.
Please remember to return your Educational Passport forms with your books this week as they will be sent on to your secondary schools.
Enjoy your last week, we may have a surprise or two in store before the final bell on Friday!
Yippee it's Friday!

I'm sure you'll all be very disappointed to hear that this is the last page we will cover in our Busy at Maths! It's Pg. 182 and on the topic of Chance, we have covered a lot about chance already but this page deals with converting to a percentage chance. Video attached below to explain further but you should all fly through it! I will upload photos of the page itself on SeeSaw for anyone wanting to fill it in that way.
Have a good day,
Today we are looking at Pg.177 of our Busy at Maths and it deals with problem solving on the topic of capacity. To really focus on the problem solving part I will allow you to use a calculator to work out the computations. Be sure to check what units they require you to give your answer in! Video below to explain if needed.
Have a good day,
Today we are looking at the topic of Volume on Pgs. 175 and 176 of your Busy at Maths. You'll all be very relieved to hear it isn't as complicated as some of the pages from the last few days, well done on all your hard work I know it's tested your skills! Video below to explain all and I'll upload the pages to SeeSaw if you want to fill them in that way or you can do them in your copies.
Keep up the great work,
Today we are looking at Pg. 174 of our Busy at Maths, it's definitely one to get the brain cells into overdrive!! Take your time with them, there is a lot of work involved. In Q3. if you change them to litres using a decimal and put them in the correct order from smallest to largest you can use a calculator for part (i) and (ii) it will be good practice. There is a video below with a quick run through of the page, as I said it's very similar to our work from last week. Any questions just ask.
Have a good day,
Today we are looking at Pgs 172 and 173 in our Busy at Maths on Capacity, remember capacity is the amount of liquid a container can hold. They are very similar to the questions on weight last week as we are working with 1L = 1000ml. For Pg.172 you can complete it on SeeSaw of discuss it orally. Any problems you can contact me bu email or on the SeeSaw app. The video below runs quickly through all the work.
Try your best!
Our penultimate week in sixth class! Thank you for all your wonderful work last week, I especially loved seeing your memory wheels and reading the letters and poems to your classmates, I have attached some below.
This week we are looking at the topic of Happiness and investigating how we are largely in control of our own happiness. This is an amazing realization, that even when life is hard it’s possible to make yourself happy.
Again this week we’re going to make a good push with our maths, so please focus your attention in this area- you will notice again I haven’t uploaded as much work in other subjects to give you time to do this.
Try your best with the activities, remember you can upload work either via email or on the SeeSaw app. Below are some samples of your work from last week.
Have a good week,
Below are the answers to questions on this weeks unit- Weight. We done on all the hard work, they were a real challenge this week!
