Monday March 30th

Picture
Morning everyone,

Hope you and your families are all keeping safe and well.  I know it can be difficult to remember with all that’s going on that Easter is approaching so some of the activities this week have an Easter theme to try and lift the spirits!

Maths:
  • Continue working on in Master Your Maths, as far as the end of Week 26.  Also use this opportunity to go back and complete any days you may have missed out on during the year.
  • There are lots of links to maths games for 5th and 6th on the main school blog which are great for revision.

English:
  • I have attached the poem ‘I See His Blood Upon the Rose’, by Joseph Plunkett.  Read the poem and complete the questions underneath.
  • The link below will bring you to the first two chapters in the novel The Guns of Easter, a story about Jimmy a young boy who finds himself caught up in events during The 1916 Rising.  Read the first two chapters and write a newspaper report on living conditions in Dublin at the time.

  • If you would like to read the whole novel you can borrow the book online for free with archive.org below.  You must create your own account first.

  • Continue work on your spellings – this is the last week in your Spelling Journal for this term.  Complete your spelling activities for the week in your homework copy- or you can email them to the class email- sixthclass@kilkerleyns.ie
  • I have included some comprehension activities on Easter at the bottom of this post for anybody that may find the activities above too much of a challenge.  Just like in class we all work at different levels so choose whichever one suits you best.

SESE:
  • As Easter is approaching revise Unit 10 in your Small World History on The 1916 Rising by completing the A-Z of the 1916 Rising attached below.   Each answer starts with the letter beside the given clue (anyone that can come up with clues for the letters Q, X or Z let me know- I'll be very impressed!)
  • Research some Easter Traditions from around the world

  • I have attached a fact sheet and questions about the history of Easter Eggs at the bottom of the post.

Religion:
  • Continue Theme 7 in your Grow in Love on the topic of Holy Week and Easter.

Remember try your best with the activities given, you do not have to complete every single one.  I understand that not everyone has access to great wifi (myself included!) and that others may have to help out in the family or that some activities might be a little challenging.  The priority at this time is keeping everyone safe and well.

Missing you all,
Ms Condron
