Work for week starting May 10th

Morning everybody!

Hope you’re all keeping safe and well, what a beautiful day it was on Saturday!  Work for the week is listed below.  I know it is suggested work and try your best to complete what you can, however the SPHE and Maths activities in particular are focussed on preparation for secondary school so make them your priority.

SPHE:
In the second lesson of our Transition Programme we are looking at timetables.  As it says in the presentation not all timetables are the same but it’s good to practice reading and interpreting a timetable.

English:
  • Reading- Read the story The Maguires Pg. 218 in Racing Ahead and complete activities on Pgs 230 and 231
  • Spellings- Continue with your spelling sheet.  For each word write a definition, put all twenty words in alphabetical order and choose ten to put into a sentence.
  • Handwriting- continue work in your handwriting books
  • Free Writing- choose one of the following:
Write a persuasive piece on ‘Puppies should not be given as Christmas presents’.
Write a procedure outlining a summer recipe.
Write a narrative in the character of an animal
  • Writing –Keep up the super work on report writing.  This week choose an animal from your Small World Geography and Science to write a report on.  I’ve attached a planning template below to help.

Maths:
  • Master Your Maths- continue with week 30 in your book.  Our final week in MYM- bet you thought we’d never get there!  I’ll upload answers from week 29 tomorrow.
  • This week we will be learning about Directed Numbers in Busy at Maths Pgs. 120-124.  I will upload a separate blog post for each part to explain in more detail. Directed numbers appear a lot at second level so make sure to complete as much as you can.
Gaeilge:
  • Spellings- This week we are looking at ‘An Samhradh’. Use your dictionary to help with translation of the dictation.
  • Abair Liom- Continue our theme of ‘An Aimsir’, in Abair Liom.  As always you can access the resources for the unit on the folens website.  They are really great as just like in class the stories and comhrá  are read aloud for you to follow in your book.  I have attached a sound file below to help with pronunciation of the foclóir agus frásaí.
  • Cúla 4/ TG4- féach ar réamhaisneis na haimsire ar TG4
  • Gramadach- Irish Verbs Made Easy Workbook- this week we continue with Pg 15.  Use your learning journal and yellow grammar book to help out.  I know they can be a challenge so well done for trying your best with them I had some excellent work emailed to me last week.

SESE:
  • This week we are looking at animals in our Small World Geography and Science.  Read Pgs. 60- 66 and complete the activities on Pgs. 64 and 66.
  • Here are some videos and resources on the topic:
https://www.nationalgeographic.com/animals/facts-pictures/ Facts about many animals
https://www.reptilegardens.com/animals/snakes Information about snakes, venom, habitats and behaviours
http://www.speedofanimals.com/ Website listing and comparing the speed of the fastest animals
https://www.sciencekids.co.nz/sciencefacts/animals/spider.html Facts about spiders
https://www.nationalgeographic.com/environment/habitats/rain-forests/ Rainforest Habitats
  • This is a really great topic for carrying out some investigations on the habitats of creatures around your house and garden.  Use the files below to help you in your investigations- try to survey an area of about 1m squared.

Art:
  • Use materials from your garden to create a picture of a mini beast or creature you have studied this week.
  • Bring your art outdoors and sketch something in your garden- trees, flowers, an old broken plan pot, your bike etc. there is inspiration everywhere.

  • Similarly you could use your garden as inspiration for some photography outdoors
  • Draw some animals – there are lots to choose from below

  • Use clay/Play Dough to create some animals

  • Make the most of the beautiful weather outside and try some yoga and stretches in the garden.

Religion:
• Grow in Love- Theme 9 Lesson 1– Each of Us is God’s Masterpiece. Pg. 90-93
  • May is the month of Our Lady, it might be a nice idea to collect some wild flowers or flowers from your garden and make a little May altar in your house- I would love to see photographs of these.

Remember if you want to photograph anything and send it on please do- it’s fabulous to see all your work, I have some photos from last week below.  Please share your work on Google docs to make sure I don’t miss it and check back for feedback.
